It’s farmers market season, and there are markets almost daily in different parts of the metro area, selling everything from local farm grown strawberries to fresh corn tortillas to chicken shawarma. Black River Juice Bar
Named for her grandparents’ hometown of Rionegra, Colombia, founder Biviana Delgado’s Black River Juice Bar offers a range of different juices and smoothies using classic ingredients like apples, spinach, and ginger, but also less common ones like bok choy, kumquats, and guanabana, a fruit native to Central and South America.

Aleppo Kitchen
Started by Barwin and Yaser, who moved to Clarkston from Syria in 2016, this family-owned business has been a regular at local markets for years. Expect to find baba ganoush, hummus, fattir (spinach, meat, or chicken pies), shawarma, and desserts like traditional baklava and cream cheese and gaimar baklava. They also offer full-service catering.

Buenos Dias Pupusa
Ken and Jeannette Flores-Katz are the mastermind chefs behind Sylvan Hills specialty grocery store La Bodega and Buenos Dias Café y Pupuseria, a to-go restaurant known for their handmade, gluten-free Salvadorian pupusas of vegan, vegetarian, and meat options.

Caribe United Farm
Gabriel and Tamita run a Caribbean style farm in Crawford, Georgia, where they raise pigs and chickens. You can find them at local markets selling farm fresh non-gmo eggs, sausages, and “Caribbean goodies.”

Casa Cardoza
Founded by Chef Zachary Basto in honor of his abuelos, Casa Cardoza is best known for its warm, flaky, and savory South American empanadas with roots in Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile.

EstoEtno Fine Bakery
Tiina D’Souza was frustrated when she moved to Atlanta and couldn’t find pure rye bread, like the kind she grew up eating in Estonia. So she took matters into her own hands and started EstoEtno, which sells traditional Estonian style breads, cakes, and pies (“with less sugar than traditional American desserts”).

Grand Prix Bakery
This Bosnian family-run business with a brick-and-mortar in Lawrenceville has been serving up its signature pillowy flatbread leinja since Yugoslavia-born founder Raso Isovic founded the speciality bakery in 2002. “In Bosnia, bread is a really big deal,” Raso’s daughter Inera told 285 South. “It’s nice to bring that into the community here.”

Herbs & Kettles
Mumbai native and doctor Poorvi Chordia and her husband, Abe, also a physician, launched their tea business in 2021. “We travel to small sustainable farms in different regions of India to directly source the best single origin, single batch teas we love and trust,” reads their website. Among their best-selling teas include rose cardamom chai, blue chai, and Assam golden needle.

Molino Tortilleria Atlanta
This family-owned and operated traditional, heirloom corn tortilleria serves up locally-crafted blue, yellow, and white organic corn tortillas at markets around town and offers online ordering as well. Visit their brick-and-mortar at 3781 Presidential Pkwy Suite FP 309 Monday-Friday or catch them at an upcoming community market to get your hands on a warm batch of freshly-made authentic tortillas.

Samurai Bodega
Authentic and original, Samurai Bodega’s founders are eager to bring street-style vending beloved in their home of Japan to Metro Atlanta. You’ll find Japanese grab-and-go Onigri (rice balls) with a variety of savory fillings, milk bread sandwiches, kimchi and so much more. Know you’re swinging by an upcoming market pop-up? Newnan resident Airyonna Ayala founded Silk Road Chai and Coffee this spring in part because, outside of Starbucks, she said there aren’t a lot of places to get chai in the area where she grew up. Her pop-up sells not only classic lattes and cappuccinos, but also specialized drinks drawing on her Pakistani heritage like the “pink jade,” a matcha latte made with oat milk infused with Rooh Afza (a South Asian drink made with rose water).

Sincerely, by Paryani
Founded in 2019 in response to navigating her own ulcerative colitis, Sonia Paryani embraced grain-free and dairy-free baked goods to help restore her health without having to sacrifice her sweet tooth. You can purchase goods like the Almond Banana Bread or Cashew Ginger Bites online or catch Paryani at pop-ups around town.

Sweet Sweet Syria
Years ago, founders Ruwaida and Khaled left their home country of Syria to ensure a safer life for their children. Despite the tumult of migration, according to their website, Ruwaida made sure to bring along her beloved cookie mold — the same one both her mother and grandmother used to teach her to bake. Don’t miss Sweet Sweet Syria delicacies like the Chocolate Bettefor and Date Mamool, available to order online and in person at local farmers markets.

Founder Marissa Childers and her friend Ethan Darla founded this Asian specialty coffee company in 2022 to champion Asian coffees and flavors uncommon among mainstream brands. Tanbrown not only offers whole bean Asian specialty coffee, but they also cater full espresso and drip as well as offer coffee education training services.

Taste of Egypt by Sahar
Sahar Alkenawy and her son run this small business that offers catering as well as sells classic Middle Eastern dishes like Egyptian style chicken shawarma and falafel wraps (the falafel are made with fava beans instead of chickpeas) at pop-ups and local markets. “She learned from her mother, and then she passed on to her all the secret recipes and everything…” Sahar’s son told 285 South.
