285 South is a local publication dedicated to Metro Atlanta’s growing immigrant and refugee communities. Its mission is to improve the quality of life of these communities through storytelling, journalism, and information sharing.
Position Overview
285 South is seeking a mission-driven and entrepreneurial business development associate to experiment with different revenue generating strategies. The associate would be tasked with building out 285 South’s capacity to run ads and incorporate sponsorships into the newsletter and website; identifying grant and funding opportunities; as well as managing and supporting the growth of our donor base.
This role will work closely with 285 South’s founder as well as with the editorial team to identify ways stories can reach more people.
The ideal candidate will be committed to 285 South’s mission, have local Atlanta area ties and connections, and bring experience in for-profit or nonprofit media revenue development.
Primary Responsibilities
- Build out 285 South’s capacity to run local ads. This includes developing and reaching out to potential businesses and nonprofits and working with the Indiegraf platform to develop and implement ads in the website and newsletter.
- Develop a marketing and fundraising kit and presentation that can be tailored for prospective advertisers, funders, and donors.
- Identify funding opportunities and apply for grants.
- Manage and support current donors and identify ways to expand donor base.
Compensation & Benefits
This is initially a 6-month contract. It is remote, but Atlanta based. The associate will be expected to meet in person with the team bimonthly.
Pay commensurate with experience and qualifications.
