Immigration and Customs Enforcement has opened a satellite office around College Park to accommodate more administrative officers.
ICE spokesperson Lindsay Williams confirmed to WABE that more officials are working in the new office, but did not disclose the location. In addition to the new office, there’s an existing ICE field office on Ted Turner Drive in Atlanta.
The office is not part of a coordinated Department of Homeland Security operation, as seen in cities like Chicago and Minneapolis, but instead reflects the Trump administration’s increase in the number of immigration agents.
Williams would not confirm the number of new ICE employees who will work out of the satellite office.
College Park Mayor Bianca Motley Broom said in a statement that federal immigration agencies have not contacted city officials. She clarified ICE is not operating out of the Georgia International Convention Center.
ICE officers in Atlanta have also received newly wrapped SUVs as promised by the Trump administration last year. They have red and gold stripes, the acronym ICE in large gold letters on the sides and “President Donald J. Trump” embossed in gold on the back.
