Casa Alterna, an Atlanta-based ministry that offers hospitality to asylum seekers and immigrants facing deportation, is organizing a Super Bowl watch party at Thinking Man Tavern in Decatur on Sunday, February 8th, at 6:30 p.m. The will be a DJ spinning Latin music, food, and drinks. The Georgia Muslim Voter Project and the CAIR Georgia are hosting their annual advocacy day at the Georgia Capitol. Attendees will enjoy breakfast, learn more about direct advocacy, and hear from speakers, including Muslim state lawmakers.  Register to attend here.

For the first time ever, Atlanta will have a Gaza 5K, organized by UNRWA USA, to raise money to support mental health counseling and trauma support for Palestine refugee children. The first screening of the short film "Nuestra Realized," about the impact laws like 287G have had on LatinX families in Georgia. Gwinnett County students worked with researchers Dr. Lemon to creatively tell their stories. Q and A afterwards with the crew members and actors. More info here.

Local Chef, Andres Carrillo, founder of Cocina Pachuco, is hosting a fundraising dinner in support of El Refugio. Amilcar Valencia, director of the nonprofit supporting families of immigrants detained, and State Rep. Ruwa Romman will be speaking about the state of ICE detention. More details here.
