Job description:

285 South is searching for an enterprising reporter to cover Atlanta’s immigrant and refugee communities. Whether its investigations into housing or healthcare, civic engagement efforts around the election, or features on unsung community heroes, new immigrant owned businesses, or deeper cultural trends, we are looking for a reporter who will write stories centering voices from the region’s diverse communities.

We’re looking for a brilliant and dynamic writer and journalist who can move through vastly different spaces and deliver sharp copy to deadline.

A key part of the job is to work with other reporters both at 285 South and in partnership with other outlets.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify stories through cultivation of local sources
  • Deliver a variety of news stories, investigations and features accurately, sometimes meeting fast deadlines
  • Report and write to a diverse audience in a crisp and easy to digest style
  • Develop sources across Metro Atlanta immigrant and refugee communities
  • Produce social media posts for stories

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated understanding of  immigrant communities
  • 2 years experience as a reporter and writer
  • Bilingual or multilingual
